Frozen Shropshire

Around Telford during the cold snap

We really can't complain about the coldness of the winter so far and the recent ice and snow is rather late.

Here are a few pictures taken on Saturday February 4th around the Telford, Burlington and Cosford area.

Frozen Shropshire - Priorslee Lake

The birds at Priorslee Lake were concentrated around some melt-holes when we were there.
The small melts were caused by the body-heat of birds deciding to sit on the ice at those points.

Frozen Shropshire - Snow-dusted field

From the A5 at Redhill, behind the trees is Telford.

Frozen Shropshire - Burlington Ford

The ford at Burlington. A very pretty scene in the snow.

Frozen Shropshire - snow falling near Burlington

A field near Burlington as the snow fell. A very bleak and cold vista.

Frozen Shropshire - snow dusted railway tracks

Railway racks near Cosford.

As I create this page I hear the sounds of thawing ice, a steady drip-drip of water as it converts
back to its liquid state. No doubt the snow will soon pass and we can tell stories in years
to come of the terrible snow that hit the UK in February and caused so much havoc.
(Even if for many of us the amount was quite small!)
